Anticipation

I painted Marilyn Monroe in a private moment of self-reflection. I wanted to consider the gap between her public image and her experience of herself.

I chose Monroe because I recognise the pressure to meet other people’s expectations. Painting her gave me a way to examine that pressure through portraiture.
